A TIME FOR WAR…
A casualty of the war between the demons and the vampires, Jase Kayrs has been missing for six long years. His older brothers want answers—but they’re going to have to get them from an unlikely source. For when Kane Kayrs tracks down Amber Freebird, what he finds is a blonde, vegan pacifist who has no intention of using her skills in his war…

A TIME FOR LOVE…
Amber enjoys her life of chaotic freedom and has no intention of falling in line just because a sexy-as-sin vampire insists on order. Unfortunately, he discovers she may be the only hope they have of finding his brother, and there’s no way he’s going to let her go—even if it means mating her to gain her cooperation. The two are as different as can be, yet when the dominant Kane and the untamed Amber finally unite to rescue Jase, they just may find that opposites really do attract…

Review:
I first want to point out that this book takes place almost four years after the previous book, not the six that that the summary says. So with this series I totally skipped the first three books and picked the series with book four. You don’t necessarily HAVE to read the first books of the series, but I would recommend it. At the very least you would have wanted to have read book four, that is the book that Jase goes missing in.

So as mentioned this book picks up four years after the previous book, so we are 14 years later from the very first book of the series. Janie is 20, her little brother is 14, and they have been fighting the war for 300+ years but in the last 14 things have really escalated. Four years ago the demons captured Jase the youngest of the Kayrs brothers and also the favorite.  Capture of by the demons is the worst sort of capture because not only do they torture they body they torture the mind too. The only thing that can fight the demon mind torture are enhanced females. The Kayrs NEED a demon destroyer thought to have died out years ago, but rumor has it there is one left….

Amber Freebird is a pacifist, and a vegan and wouldn’t hurt a soul. Not only that, but she has no idea that she has power of any sort. When Kane finds her, she is working in a bar and has no idea what Kane is talking about. I adored Amber, I love a free spirited tree hugger! Its my own inner hippie coming out! I love that she cares about the environment and never wants to harm. I love how she ran oh so serious Kane around in circles. I thought it was fantastic how she entered into the vampire headquarters and starts ordering the King around for an animal cruelty free environment. That took some conviction and kahones!  She may not have known what in the world she was doing but she commits whole heartedly! Whether its driving Kane to distraction or doing her part to find Jase, she’s committed. She also has such compassion and I think she is the only one that would have been able to get through Kane’s thick a$$ skull.

Kane, oh Kane, one of my favorite brothers. I couldn’t wait for his story because it’s always the quite ones you have to worry about, and that saying is no less true here. Who knew he had all of the dominance in him? I know I didn’t see it coming, but if I was in Ambers shoes I wouldn’t be mad at it! When he puts his mind to something he is nothing if not dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome. It’s that same mind set that has him so distraught about Jase’s rescue.  Kane has almost found him so many times yet has come up empty handed, he blames himself that they haven’t been able to find Jase. His dedication is such that he offers to mate Amber almost immediately so that they can use each others powers. Of course Kane being so terribly logical Kane, he completely fumbles his offer of mate hood with Amber and just keeps on fumbling and fumbling.  Finally something Kane sucks at, wooing women…

Your heart beaks for Jase, just utterly breaks. He’s been tortured for four years and is going quite mad. He knows he is losing more and more of his brain with every torture session. He has been holding on, but he knows he has next to nothing left in him. When he goes for that rock, its all you can do to keep from crying for him. You truly don’t know if he is going to make it out and if he does get rescued if there will be anything left of his mind and spirit to go on.

Janie, doesn’t have as much of a role in this book. She makes a few important appearances but is mostly absent. We know she is supposed to change the world, we just don’t know how. Her story line is quite intriguing and I like to see how it unravels bit by bit with each book.

I enjoy the world that Zanetti built and would recommend this series to any paranormal lover!
