ARC Review: Heather Killough-Walden - Avenger's Angel

Lost Angels Series:
Book 1:
Avenger's Angel: Archangel Uriel and Eleanor Granger
Publication Date: November 8th, 2011
Summary:
Over 2000 years ago, He created four female archesses angels as a reward to his four favorite archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael. After his creation he cast these four women to earth. The four angels decided to go to earth to search for their women. 2000 years later the former archangels are still searching…
Archangel Uriel has gotten bored with vengeance and has decided to take up acting. Now one of the most popular actors in the US he is on the tour grind when he enters a small bookstore for a book signing when he realizes that the special young woman Eleanor that he runs into is his very own archess. Eleanor has secrets, special abilities that she needs to keep hidden, getting involved with America’s most eligible bachelor is not a wise idea. But attraction isn’t always wise. Now, Eleanor is the most popular girl in town, with the handsome billionaire Samuel (who is really the angel Sameul) pursuing her and the men in black lurking in the shadows. Eleanor’s life just got a whole lot more dangerous and Uriel is determined to protect what is his even if it kills him.
Review:
This series has a lot of potential; the archesses are incredibly powerful and have some wicked powers. The premise of the Archangels searching for their fated women is intriguing and that they were created for the Archangels by the higher power itself kind of cool. What seemed like would make for a fantastic read didn’t quite translate, I’m sad to say that I didn’t even finish this book. I was about half way through the book when put it down to go to sleep and never picked it back up. I just had nothing drawing me back in and was kind of bored through the first half. I may pick the book back up at some point to see what happens but with all of the great books out there it’s doubtful.  There wasn’t any one thing wrong with the book per say, but it just needed more.. of everything. The Archangels are supposed to be some of the most powerful beings, but really all of them except Azrael (who was the most interesting, I might pick up this series again to read his book) were basically neutered and about all they could do was some telekinesis.  Samuel, who is the “bad guy” isn’t all that bad and all his actions are to get back at the four “favorites” so his attempt to foil Uriel is a competition to see who can get Eleanor to love one of them more or first. Come on now, this is basically the same thing as a two horny dudes betting who can get a chick in bed with them first. Eleanor didn’t have much of a personality; she was too busy living in fear and always running and didn’t put up much of a fight for either Uriel or Samuel. Where I left off she had just found out the Uriel was really an archangel and she was pissed that the four of them hadn’t saved the world from all of it numerous problems. Like four earth bound neutered “angels” who can lift some furniture with their minds but not much else could really cure all diseases, end all wars and basically bring about world peace. Really?!
Rating:

Because it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either.
