Summary:
From Goodreads.com
After being kicked out of the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea's whole existence is in shambles. She tries to put herself back together by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend. When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano--the male alpha of the Clan Bouda, and Andrea's former lover--die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate. Now she must work with Raphael as her search for the killer leads into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta. And dealing with her feelings for him might have to take a back seat to saving the world...

Review:
I admit coming into his book I wasn’t sure what to expect or if I would even like it all that much. Andrea has never really been my favorite. She’s always been a bit uptight to me. Granted she had a really shitty childhood and that’s an understatement. She really only had one constant in her life and that was the Order. When Raphael entered her world, I thought she would lighten up a bit, but she never really did. Now she is kicked out of the Order and working with Kate. She is starting to realize that there was more to life than the Order and is setting about to make amends, only she is too late. Her man has moved on, to a blond bimbo.

Just when she is pretty sure she has hit the bottom, Jim throws a case her way and now she has to work with her former lover. Andrea has a lot to prove not only to Raphael, but mostly to herself. She is out to prove that she is going to be ok and that she can thrive in her new circumstances. She is determined to solver her case, win her man and become a part of a pack. Andrea does a lot of growing in this book. She finally starts to overcome her childhood, to understand that you can depend on people and not everyone will let you down. She learns to rust in herself more than she ever has before. She has always known she was a great Knight but she discovers she is more than that. Raphael is his typical charming self. You can’t help but like him, he’s cocky and most self-assured but not obnoxious about it. He is supportive and more than a bit of a bad ass. I never mind reading about Raphael! And we get quite a bit of our newest youngest Hyena Asinso (I’m pretty sure I butchered that but I’m too lazy to go look it up). I don’t love him as much as Derek but this kid is pretty damn entertaining! He’s also pretty helpful to Andrea and holds his own in a fight.

As with all of Ilona Andrews books, it is packed full of plenty of action, this you can count on. Plenty of battles to be won, more gods to defeat, its good times! I really do enjoy the myth element to this series. Each book it’s a different cultures mythology and it is always interesting. I’ve always enjoyed mythology, it always made for some of the best stories!

This was another very solid installment of this series but really can you go wrong with an Ilona Andrews novel?

  1. Ahhh okay you convinced me. I wasn't sold on Andrea being a heroine either. I really enjoyed Raphael but she's just been eh for me so I've been putting it off. Love that she really grows through the book and changes a bit. I always love a heroine that manages that.

    Great review Amanda!
