Early Review: Saving a Legend by Sarah Robinson

Saving a Legend - Kieran Kavanagh and Fiona Doherty

(Kavanagh Legends #2)

Saving a Legend (Kavanagh Legends, #2)

Expected publication: June 14th 2016

Summary:
His family’s gym has produced a roster of mixed martial arts legends, but so far Kieran Kavanagh hasn’t followed in their footsteps. After a brawl lands him in jail, Kieran is assigned to work at a center for at-risk youth. Though given a second chance, Kieran’s simply going through the motions—until he meets one very special kid, Shea Doherty, and falls hard for her very beautiful, very grown-up big sister, Fiona. The trouble is, Kieran’s best opening moves are getting him nowhere fast.

Fiona Doherty has too many responsibilities to fool around, especially now that she has custody of Shea. Sure, she’d love to find a devoted partner. But she won’t jeopardize her sister’s happiness—or risk revealing her tortured past—on a love-’em-and-leave-’em type of guy like Kieran . . . so it’s up to him to prove her wrong. As Fiona spends more time with Kieran, she starts to see a softer side of the reckless warrior. Now she must admit that when it comes to the possibility of real love, well . . . there’s a fighting chance.

Review:
I truly enjoyed this book. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I’ve never read this author and I knew going into this book it was the second book in the series and I hadn’t read the first book. Thankfully, this book can be read as a standalone. I think reading the first book would help at least give more background on this fun family. So with this book you’re not just getting a couple, you’re getting devoted sisters and an awesome loving family.

So I guess I should talk a bit about Kiernan and Fiona since they are the stars of this show.  So Kiernan just got of prison, yep you read that right, prison.  So two years prior, he got caught in an illegal MMA fight, and he got arrested. Personally, I think it was bullshit. Two men got into that ring, Kiernan had knocked out the other dude when the cops arrived, so he got an assault charge and sentenced to 2.5 years. I mean maybe 2.5 years if he has beat the shit out of someone randomly but a staged fight. Seems like some serious probation and a fine sort of offense.  Anyway.. So he gets out of jail and is determined to turn his life around, 2 days later and he meets Fiona and instantly smitten. Fiona is not convinced; she has a young autistic child to look after. Kiernan bonds with Shea right along with Fiona, maybe even with Shea before Fiona. I loved watching them all bond, there is a moment when Shea is having a bad day that is pretty touching.  Fiona is just trying to keep it all together. Shea is a lot and it takes all of her focus and a guy is the last thing she needs, but Kiernan worms his way into her heart and life anyway. She also has a dark secret that is tearing her apart. I truly enjoyed these two separately and apart. This is a heartwarming tale that I think anyone would enjoy.
