#Review: A Good Day for Chardonnay - Darynda Jones

Title: A Good Day for Chardonnay

Author: Darynda Jones

Series: Sunshine Vicram #2

I love picking up a Darynda Jones book, every time invokes smiles and laughter. Work has been crazy busy and this series gave me an outlet for escape even if for a few hours. Lately I have found myself struggling to find new books to read. I’ve tried new authors, different genre’s, etc. I completely forgot that Darynda Jones had a couple of series outside of Charley Davidson that I had not yet read so when I stumbled back across them on Amazon, I just had to scoop them up.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book so of course I’ve been waiting on the sequel and it does not disappoint. As one would expect from this author there are comedic moments that having you chuckling out loud and anyone in your vicinity looking at you like you’re crazy, suspense and there are moments of sadness. Just as there would be in real life.

The characters are wonderfully kooky and heart-warming, it’s a true supporting cast. Every character only enhances the story and makes you want to move to their little town in New Mexico.

I enjoyed every second of this book (as well as the first) and highly recommend it. If you’ve been waffling, now is the time.

Early Review: Her Naughty Holiday by Tiffany Reisz

Her Naughty Holiday: Clover Greene and Erick Fields

(Men at Work #2)

Expected publication: October 18th 2016

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
A feast she wasn't expecting!

Clover Greene would sooner crawl into her oven than host family for Thanksgiving dinner. Yet another annual ritual of too much food, served with a side of criticism over "Clover's Bad Life Choices." This year, she needs to distract them all—with a handsome fake boyfriend. And she has the perfect guy in mind.

Contractor Erick Fields is the poster boy for sexy single dads, and Clover has been secretly crushing on him for ages. She certainly wasn't expecting Erick to agree to her insane charade…or to add lots of hot, wicked sex to the deal. If they can pull it off, the worst Thanksgiving ever might give them something to be really thankful for!

Review:
Her Naughty Holiday is the second book in Tiffany Reisz’s Men at Work series featuring sexy men that create beautiful things with their hands. Their hands tend to be talented at other things as well. *wink wink*, because it wouldn’t be a Reisz novel without some awesome sexy times. Like the first book in this series this one is also heartwarming with some good laughs involved.

I enjoyed both Erick and Clover; however, I did not love this book as much as the first. That being said I still thoroughly enjoyed it, but when you read the two back to back it’s hard to not compare. Clover runs a successful nursery but is getting ready to close up shop for the weekend. It’s right before Thanksgiving and she can’t bare to deal with her passive aggressive family alone. Thankfully, her awesome teenaged assistant has a single sexy father who is up for being used this holiday season. Erick and Clover have been eying each other and Ruthie has had enough and she takes it upon herself to hook them up for the holidays.

So now that they have determined that Erick is going to be her “Sven” for Thanksgiving, hey decide that its probably a good idea that they get to know each other better on a one on one basis without Ruthie. From here on their chemistry explodes! Its laughs, good sex and Clover worrying about her family and Erick doing his best to calm Clovers nerves. I really liked Erick and Clover together, I feel like they balanced each other well and made a good team. Im happy I got a copy of this book to read. Thanks NetGalley and Harlequin!

Review: About a Dragon by G.A. Aiken

About a Dragon: Briec the Mighty and Talaith

(Dragon Kin #2)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
C’mon dragon, light my fire…

For Nolwenn witch Talaith, a bad day begins with being dragged from bed by an angry mob intent on her crispy end and culminates in rescue by—wait for it—a silver-maned dragon. Existence as a hated outcast is nothing new for a woman with such powerful secrets. The dragon, though? A tad unusual. This one has a human form to die for, and knows it. According to dragon law, Talaith is now his property, for pleasure…or otherwise. But if Lord Arrogance thinks she’s the kind of damsel to acquiesce without a word, he’s in for a surprise…

Is the woman never silent? Briec the Mighty knew the moment he laid eyes on Talaith that she would be his, but he’d counted on tongue-lashings of an altogether different sort. It’s embarrassing, really, that it isn’t this outspoken female’s magicks that have the realm’s greatest dragon in her thrall. No, Briec has been spellbound by something altogether different—and if he doesn’t tread carefully, what he doesn’t know about human women could well be the undoing of his entire race…

Review:
About a Dragon by G.A. Aiken is the second book in one of my all-time favorite dragon series: the Dragon Kin. G.A. Aiken brings us Briec the Mighty whose arrogance knows no bounds! I’m surprised that there is room for more than himself and his ego within any city limits, he’s that bad. You would think a character with an ego a mile wide would be annoying, but no, G.I. Aiken knew exactly how to pull this one off. She gave him a mate that can stand up to him and put him in his place. So his arrogance became a funny quirk instead of a serious character fall. And really can any other character type pull off arrogance quite like a dragon? Not so much, I mean really, I’d be cocky too if I was a dragon. Lol

I loved both Briec and Talaith, both were freak’n funny on their own, bring them together and the laughs were plentiful! We basically met Talaith when she is being dragged from her bed and tied up by the townspeople to be burned as a witch. When Briec runs across this scene he takes in her courage and decides to “rescue” her, AKA kidnap her for himself. However, Briec being Briec, he thinks she would be happy that he abducted her and pretty much said she is to be his sex slave. Talaith being Talaith did not so much appreciate that.. sure she appreciated the “rescue” but she wasn’t so sure that this was much better. From the minute of her rescue the sparks are flying between these two, their form of foreplay turns out to be arguing. Some of the fights they picked with each other were just ridiculous but highly amusing. These two will have you in laughing from beginning to end.

Talaith is a total smart alek and pretty badass I have to say. Just when things really start heating up, she takes off from Briec leaving him heart broken. This is where we really get to see her badassness kick in, sure it was spoken of, but after this point to get to see her training in action. This series is full of some serious female ass kickers; which is my fav! Briec is more than just a pretty face and ego as it turns out. He’s actually a warrior who takes exception to anyone trying to take what is his and for now, Talaith is his… but he’s sure he’ll tire of her eventually, maybe in a couple hundred of years… In an epic battle Briec manages to do some serious damage to the enemy as does Talaith. Together they can do some serious damage. Besides Talaith and Briec, we have lots of meddling dragons from Briec’s family as well as Annwyl the Bloody who ends up in the book quite a lot which is fine by me as I quite enjoyed her in the first book as well and she is just as contrary as always. If you haven’t been reading the Dragon Kin series you’ve been missing out, especially if you like to laugh and enjoy a good dragon story. I’ve pretty much fallen in love with this book as well as the series.

Review: Cursed By Destiny by Cecy Robson

Cursed By Destiny: Celia Wird and her three sisters

(Weird Girls #3)

Summary:
Goodreads.com
Celia’s a girl in trouble.  Her heart is bound to Aric, but he is a pureblood were who must deny her or risk condemning his species to extinction.  And that’s just her love life. She’s also been called to take down a group of demon terrorists seeking to overthrow the paranormal world. (No pressure.)

In order to bring them down, Celia must ally herself to Misha, the master vampire who has made no secret of his desire for her. And if that weren’t enough misfortune for one girl, a clairvoyant’s prediction could destroy Celia and Aric’s love for good. The only way to protect the world from unbridled supernatural terrorism is for Celia to bind herself to her destined mate. And that doesn’t appear to be Aric

Review:
Cursed by Destiny by Cecy Robson is the third book in the Weird Girls Series an action packed humorous Urban Fantasy series with a bit of romance for you romance lovers out there. This series is on my up and coming favorite paranormal series, so if you haven’t been reading it, you’ve been missing out. It has all of the great elements, lots of paranormal (witches, special powers, vampires, were’s, demons, etc…), good laughs to be had, a love triangle, and tons of ass kicking! These are some strong powerful women and the men who adore them.

So enough fan girl time with the series and on to the book itself; so basically when we left off hell had pretty much broke out in Tahoe and the demons had demolished a huge chuck of the paranormal world especially the pure bred wolves. Aric as a pure bred has a duty to his species to procreate with another purebred and left Celia devastated. All she can do is move on and she has chosen to ally with Misha the master vampire that has never hidden the fact that he has desired her. With the demons gunning for Celia she can’t live with her sisters and potentially endanger them. Somehow word has reached the demons about Celia and they have a real hard on to take her out. The Wird sisters are no wilting flowers and they plunge into battle right next to their older sister. Seriously from beginning to end it is non-stop action and intense. Either there is an intense battle, intense training or intense passion at any given time within this novel and don’t forget the story while intense in this series even in the midst of an intense scene Cecy Robson always takes the time to give us a good chuckle.

So the love triangle, so I know you are dying to know what happens here. Aric is engaged to another purebred, will he go through with the wedding and make the elders happy? Or will his mating instinct be too strong.. HA! Like I'm going to tell you! I will admit to being on Team Aric tho. Yes, I thought him being a bit of a pansy by giving into the elders but Cecy does go a bit into it in this book so he’s not as much as a sissy as I was feeling for him before. So this may restore some reader’s faith in Aric and swing them back to Team Aric and away from Team Misha. Misha is not giving up; however, he still wants our fair Celia. What I don’t get about Misha is he wants Celia and claims to love her but he parades so many women in front of her. Ahhh Misha, I gotta tell you the way to a woman’s heart is not constantly proving you are a manwhore it will just make her feel like a notch in the belt. So that’s kinda my thoughts on Misha, maybe if he wasn’t such a manwhore I could have liked him more and been on Team Misha at least be a bit more discreet about it. Oh and to complicate things there is a new player in town, a lion who is “destined” to be the father of Celia’s babies! Oh yeah, Cecy Robson just upped the ante! How thrilled do you think Misa and Aric were to hear that?! Ha! Seriously there is never a dull moment in this book. Maybe not as emotionally charged as the last one but it is no less fantastic. I’ll pick up a Cecy Robson novel any day! Put her on my auto buy list for sure.

Review: Misbehaving by Tiffany Reisz

Misbehaving: Beatriz and Ben

Summary:
From Goodreads.com

Wanted: Adventurous, open-minded man willing to try anything…

As a popular sex blogger, Beatriz gets paid to have orgasms. So being on deadline the week of her sister’s wedding isn’t as rough as it sounds. There’s just one hitch: Bea’s assignment is to write a review of a sex position manual, but she doesn’t have a plus one to play with.

The good news: Ben, the one who got away back in college, is also attending stag--and he's as temptingly gorgeous as ever.

The bad news: Ben turned down Bea’s offer of graduation night sex five years ago.

The best news: He’s not planning on making the same mistake twice.

Review:
Misbehaving by Tiffany is a funny, fun romp back into Reisz’s wonderful twisted imagination. Here we have Bea who freelance writes for a sex blog, last minute she is handed a sex position manual for review for while she is at her little sister’s wedding and *gasp* she doesn’t have anyone to test the positions with. Enter Ben, Ben and Bea had a non-sexual thing in college and the one time Bea approached him to make it sexual he turned her down and she’s never quite forgotten the rejection and Ben has never quite gotten over Bea but he wasn’t ready for her. Now years later both realize they are still attracted to each other and each is free to experience with a sex position manual. It’s supposed to be no strings attached but with each new position new feels are brought to the surface.

I’ve always enjoyed Tiffany Reisz’s sense of humor but I’ve forgotten how much. The antics of Ben and Bea will have you cracking up but it ends up being the brother in law and bell hop that end up quite the scene stealers with their hilarious quips. We are used to the darker side of humor with Reisz from the Original Sinners Series, but this is pure fun. Reisz does rom-com with just as much enthusiasm as she does the darker humor with OS. Bea and Ben take us on a fun filled sexual journey that starts with their bodies and ends with their hearts. I thrilled enjoyed this short Red Hot Cosmo read and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a steamy funny read.

Early Review: Her Halloween Treat by Tiffany Reisz

Her Halloween Treat: Joey Silvia and Chris Steffensen

(Men at Work #1)

Expected publication: September 20th 2016

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Trick…or wicked treat!

It was a devastating dirty trick—Joey Silvia just found out her boyfriend of two years is married. What. A. Dick. Joey knows her best chance to get over one guy is to get under another. Of course, heading home to her family's remote cabin in Oregon poses some challenges in the "available men" department…until she discovers this cabin comes with its own hot handyman!

Holy crap, Chris Steffensen. When did her brother's best friend turn into a hard-bodied pile of blond-bearded hotness? He's the perfect Halloween treat—and a surprisingly dirty rebound guy. For a couple of weeks, anyway. Except that Chris has other ideas…like proving to Joey that this blast from the past is a whole lot more than a naughty Halloween hookup.

Review:
Her Halloween Treat by Tiffany Reisz in the first book in a new contemporary romance series that will consist of three books.  They all take place in Mount Hood, Oregon; where Ms. Reisz lives.  On a side note: I’ve been through the area and it is absolutely beautiful and Mt. Hood is coincidentally my phones screensaver. I have read and am a fan of Tiffany Reisz’s Original Series so her works are very familiar to me.
What you can count on with this book, hot, sexy with a bit of kinky love scenes. Witty banter with some laugh out loud moments. Warm genuine characters that you could totally see yourself being friends with and an awesome supporting cast. This book had everything I enjoy when reading a romance, it was adorable and the chances are very high that I will be re-reading this book in the very near future.

Joey has been hit with some crappy news that makes her question her own judgement, but despite that she rallied herself together and does the best she can to get over her ex douchebag. She’s known Chris most of her life and she doesn’t remember him looking so good. But there he his in all of his manliness and flannel and power tools. Chris is staring at the girl that he fell in love with in High School, she needs to get under a man to get over another one, and he’s alright with her using his body for anything she needs. He knows his heart will get broken but he goes all in anyway. Gotta admire that in a man. We are taken on a 2 week whirlwind of laughs and steamy sex. You really start to root for Chris and hope his heart won't be broken in the end. I highly recommend this book, I loved it from the first few pages. I really hope that Ms. Reisz revisits this series sometime and gives Joey’s best friend a book, she was hilarious.

Review: Run to You by Rachel Gibson

Run to You: Beau Junger and Stella Leon

(Military Men #2)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
There's nothing like fleeing Miami to ruin a girl's day. Stella Leon's bartending gig was going fine until gorgeous ex-Marine Beau Junger decked her mob-connected boss, spirited her out of the city, and claimed that Stella's half-sister--the one with the perfect life--sent him. Now Stella has no choice but to go along for the ride... and seduce Beau's military-issue socks off...

The Marine Corps was Beau's escape from his old man's legacy of naval heroism and serial philandering, but no amount of training could prepare him for the day he looked in the mirror and saw his father staring back. The answer: swear off meaningless sex. Oh, and find a way to make Stella Leon quit being so damn hot…

Review:
So I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump. I’ve probably read 2 books in like two weeks, this being one of them. Even in my reading slump I enjoyed this book. Per the typical Rachel Gibson it made me chuckle and it was light fun read. Stella, is a bit of a late bloomer, she hasn’t found her niche yet as far as work goes and has never felt like she could live up to her sisters accomplishments. So when her biological father kicks it and some GI Joe of a man comes looking for her with a message from her long lost sister she is not having it. As with most of Gibsons female leads Stella is strong and she is sassy. She might not view herself as a strong female but she is a survivor who stands up in the face of danger and even to the hard assed Beau. I quite enjoyed Stella and her attitude, she doesn’t let much really get her down and she bounces back pretty quick even with the mob chasing her. I like the way she handles uptight Beau and gets him to relax a little. Beau seriously has a bit of a pole up his ass in the beginning. He is very rigid and well military. Little by little he starts to relax a little, but is still a bit uptight, but I’m sure eventually she’ll wear him down. Beau is not my favorite of Rachel Gibson men but I still liked him as a character. Stella, I enjoyed more she was funny and kept on trucking even when she’s lost pretty much everything.

In Run to You by Rachel Gibson you can pretty much look forward to some good laughs, likeable characters and a fun story. This was a quick read that I couldn’t put down, even though it’s not my favorite Gibson novel.

Review: Nothing But Trouble by Rachel Gibson

Nothing But Trouble: Mark Bressler and Chelsea Ross

(Chinooks Hockey Team #5)

Summary:

Mark Bressler should have died that night of the car accident, some days he wishes he had. As the former Captain of the Chinooks hockey team, he feels seriously cheated as his team wins the Stanley Cup without him. It was his one dream in life and in one minute during an icy night that was all taken from him. Chelsea, is an out of work actress that decides to take a break from the LA scene and goes to Seattle to stay with her twin sister Bo who works for the Chinooks Hockey team. Almost immediately Chelsea finds herself working for Chinooks as Mark Bressler’s glorified babysitter. He has been such a pain in the a$$ that they cannot find any other nurses willing to go to his home and they even through a $10,000.00 bonus if she can make it 3 months with the man. Chelsea is used to being a PA for C list actors, is there anything worse than that? The answer is yes, and it comes in the form of Mark Bressler! At first the two can’t stand each other, but Chelsea needs that $10,000 so she puts up with Marks rude, crude ways. For Mark, Chelsea is an annoying pest he doesn’t want around but little by little she starts getting under his skin. Suddenly Mark isn’t as big as a douche as Chelsea thought he was and an attraction starts forming between these two. I mean how long can Chelsea really resist those rock hard abs?! Chelsea refuses to be one of “those” assistants that get involved with their boss. What a cliché but how long can she resist, Marks not so charming, charms…

Review:

I love love love this book! I think it may even be my favorite of the Chinook Series, but it has some fierce competition from “See Jane Score” and the “Trouble with Valentine’s Day”. I cannot pinpoint exactly what makes me love this book so much. Maybe it’s the dynamic between Mark and Chelsea, the instant annoyance which gradually gives away to more. Or how Mark is in such a dark place in his life, but Chelsea with her bright clothes and pit bull personality manage to bring him out of his deep depression. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to lose the only dream you ever had because of a freak accident. I love how R. Gibson seemlessly manages to insert today's pop culture into each of her novels. I have to say I read this book twice within the first 24 hours. I read it as soon as it came out and within 24 hours I had read it again, I loved it that much! I don’t think I had ever done that before or since!

My only piece of criticism is I am not sure I like the direction of R. Gibson's new cover art. I think I like the old school cover art a little better, but I'm still on the fence.

Review: Rhythm and Bluegrass by Molly Harper

Rhythm and Bluegrass: Bonnie Turkle and Will McBride

(Bluegrass #2)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com

Bonnie Turkle, multimedia historian for the Kentucky Commission of Tourism, is dispatched to Mud Creek, a tiny eastern Kentucky town, with few prospects but many oddballs, to rescue important artifacts from McBride’s Music Hall. Now fallen beyond disrepair, McBride’s was once a jewel of the early American music scene, an intersection of the country-western and rhythm and blues circuits. The former owner’s grandson, Will McBride, who also happens to be Mud Creek’s esteemed mayor, would like nothing more than to see the place bull-dozed in favor of a factory that will provide much-needed jobs to his citizens. But Bonnie finds evidence of a legendary musical event at the music hall and her plans to turn it into a museum put Mud Creek’s economic future at risk – not to mention the growing flirtation between the two of them. If Will and Bonnie can’t find common ground, the town’s past and future will be lost.

Review:
I adore Molly Harper she writes such fun characters. Bonnie is a wide eyed, optimistic the glass is always full sort of girl. She is cheerful and always thinks that a situation can be fixed. When she arrived in Mud Creek she didn’t expect to find a dying town and an irresistible new mayor with a real problem on how to save his town and a real grudge against the music hall. For Bonnie this town is one disaster after another but for some reason the town, the music hall and especially the mayor start to get under her skin. Will is the new town mayor, he’s lived his whole life in this city and if he doesn’t do something and fast there might not be much left of his town. To Will the music hall represents an absentee father and a money pit. He has no issues if the music hall was to disappear.

This is a funny, quirky story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Bonnie and Will had a sizzling chemistry but differing outlooks on the town. Bonnie wants to save the music hall and Will doesn’t. The antics that ensue are highly entertaining as Will and Bonnie circle each other. They each take stabs at each other as they try to save the town. The people of the town are also quite entertaining and add to the overall story. I love when the author creates quirky towns and towns member it breathes life into the story and adds a rich backdrop for the main characters to play in. In true Molly Harper fashion we are left with a fun story that is sure to have you laugh. I know I was not disappointed and look forward to the next story she has to tell.

Review: Christmas on 4th Street by Susan Mallery

Christmas on 4th Street: Gabriel Boylan and Noelle Perkins

(Fool's Gold #12.5)

Summary;
Goodreads.com
There's nowhere better to spend the holidays than with New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery in the town of Fool's Gold, where love is always waiting to be unwrapped... Noelle Perkins just got a second chance at life, and she intends to make the most of every minute. That's why she ditched a frustrating legal career to open her own store in Fool's Gold, California. The Christmas Attic celebrates everything that's magical about her favorite season. Business is booming, and as a bonus, gorgeous army doctor Gabriel Boylan has offered to help out during the holiday rush.

Gabriel's memories of Christmas past contain more sour grapes than sugar plums, thanks to a drill sergeant father who ran his home like a boot camp. Spending the holidays with his family while he recuperates from injury sounds as appetizing as last year's eggnog. Still, there are some enjoyable distractions in town, including sunny, sexy Noelle...and the red-hot mistletoe kisses they can't stop sharing.

Gabriel didn't think he was made for happily-ever-afters. But when fate hands you a love as sweet and surprising as this, only a fool could refuse....

Review:
Ok, so I admit it, Im a total slacker and I read this book weeks ago and I don’t remember a lot of details. I did a bunch of reading that week. Hey no judging I was on vacation and didn’t want to write. : ) So anyway, this book. It is definitely not my favorite of the series. It was alright, the typical cute and light hearted you have come to expect from Susan Mallery. This has not changed nor has her Fool’s Gold formula. They come together meaning to keep it light, but then they get in deeper and deeper then the guy gets scared about 90% of the way through. Someone runs off and the guy always comes back apologizes for being an idiot and then all is forgiven. Poof Happy Ending! Normally, its not a big deal. If the story is good enough, who cares about the formula, but it seemed to really stick out in the book. It almost had me going haven’t I read this book 12 times before but with different character names? Ok so it wasn’t that bad I guess.

There just wasn’t anything special about this installment I am sad to say. Noelle is cute and perky but had something dark in her past. This has just made her have a better outlook on life. There isn’t really anything to dislike about Noelle, but she isn’t a stand out. Gabriel again is a nice character. He’s an Army Trauma Doctor and has seen a lot of ish… This has basically taught him that one minute everything is hunky dory and the next it can all be gone. So obviously he’s more than a little bit skittish about anything long lasting and on top of that he has a super macho dad who always made him feel less because he isn’t super macho like his dad and brother. I kinda liked that he wasn’t a super macho, kind of refreshing. That doesn’t mean he is wimpy at all, but he is more into reading then shooting guns. I can get with that. Noelle and Gabriel were a cute couple, again nothing earth shattering, but nothing bad either. Overall, I’d say it’s a cute book, good but not great. I’m still looking forward to the next installments of the series. We still have the football players and Angel to look forward to.

Review: Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley

Fire Inside:  Hop Kincaid and Lanie Heron

(Chaos #2)

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Lanie Heron isn't looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . .

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She's too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can't say no. And he doesn't regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that's ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Review:
First off I have to say I am a Kristen Ashley fan. Her characters tend to be real, they have flaws and talk like normal people. Her woman tend to have normal women issues like bad hair days, insecurities, flaws, previous bad taste in men and a weaknesses for hot alpha men to are as bossy as they are sweet. Ok, her men, I haven’t met a single dude like the ones she writes but her in lies the fantasy aspect of her stories. Lol We love to love her alpha male, bossy as hell, sexy, protective yet will do anything for his lady men. We get this same fantastic character development in this book.

Lanie is a drama queen; she comes by it naturally as it tends to run in the family lol. When she approaches Hop it is for one night, one night of immense pleasure as it’s been seven years for her. Seven years from that fateful night when everything was stolen from her because of her fiancés bad decisions. As a character I liked Lanie, I didn’t love Lanie but I enjoyed her dramatics and all. She is a confident woman who knows what is important in life. She almost lost her own life and that of her best friend because she stood by the wrong man. Now she is deathly afraid of attaching herself to another man, after hasn’t she shown her trust in men cannot be trusted? The push and pull between Lanie and Hop is entertaining to say the least but I’m not sure I truly bought the romance.

Hop is everything you would come to expect from a Kristen Ashley male. He is dominating, self-assured, a bad ass and knows what he wants. And for years what he has wanted is Lanie Heron, now she is approaching him for a night of pleasure. He knows shit is about to get complicated but this woman is worth it. Hop does all the right things, he says all the right things, he’s a total bad ass who will protect his woman into death. But here again, I liked his character, but I never grew to love him, not like I did Shy in the previous novel in this series. Hop is great, but maybe a little too great? I don’t know, I’m not sure what kept me to truly loving his character. Again, I did like him and he was great to Lanie it was just missing that teeny bit extra.

Overall, this book was very entertaining with typical K. Ashley laughs. There is plenty of drama and a great story. However, I kept waiting for something extra to happen. I don’t know what, but usually in a K Ashley novel there is at least one life threatening action happen, but this one didn’t really have one. There was a quickie but not like I’ve become used to. I kept waiting for it, but it never happened. Besides that, this novel was not lacking in anything else. Oh and I think this is one of her steamier novels. There were lots of romantical times steaming up the pages!

The tattooed, muscled biker plies her with tequila-and the best sex of her life. She knows it isn't the tequila and hot sex talking. He's the kind of man she's always wanted. Unfortunately, he's also her new boss . . .

Kane "Tack" Allen has a rule. He doesn't employ someone he's slept with. So when he learns he spent last night in bed with his new office manager, he quickly fires Tyra. Yet when Tyra stands up to him and fights for her job, Tack is intrigued. He tells her she can keep her job on one condition: no more sex. Ever. But as things heat up between them, Tack finds that he'll be the one breaking all the rules…

Review:
I’ve had this book on my TBR shelf for YEARS, just years, sitting there doing nothing, collecting cyberdust.. Do you have any idea how hard I was smacking myself for not reading this book years ago, like when I got it? Whats even more funny about it, is I had already read ALL of the Chaos Series, every last one of them. Tack and Cherry are staples in those books and I still hadn’t read their book. Shame on me!

So anyway as I'm sure you could tell from my mini rant and kicking of my own ass, I really loved this book. Once I read this one I had to go back and re-read all of the Chaos books as well. Incase you didn’t know.. Tack is an asshole, he’s always been an asshole and will always be an asshole; but he’s an asshole with a heart of gold so you really can’t get too mad at him when he opens his mouth and says some assholish thing probably because it comes from a place of love. He’s also protective, loyal and a good (ish) father, well he loves his kids with all of his heart. When he takes someone into his “family” you know Tack has your back in whatever way you need him to be and you really can’t ask for more than that.

Tyra AKA Cherry, she is not an asshole. She’s actually pretty sweet, but she stands up to Tack. He had already written her off as a one night stand but when he tries to fire her for sleeping with him; he learns that Tyra is no pushover.. All of the sudden things shift. Tack likes a woman that will stand up to him, and Tyra has no problems doing that. It becomes an entertaining battle of wills between Tack and Cherry, moments of super sweet with bursts of fire! Tack and Tyra have their thing going but as a subplot there is Tyra’s BFF Lanni. They are real tight and since Tyra and Lanni are tight, Lanni is now tight with Chaos. Tyra will not give up on her friend, even when it would certainly be safer to do so. She is loyal to the core and a good friend. I love Tyra and Lanni’s friendship. I loved Cherry and Tack’s relationship. I loved this book. Just writing this makes me want to go re-read it. : )

Review: The Single Undead Moms Club by Molly Harper

The Single Undead Moms Club: Libby Stratton and Wade Tucker

(Half-Moon Hollow #4)

The Single Undead Moms Club (Half-Moon Hollow, #4)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Widow Libby Stratton arranged to be turned into a vampire after she was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had, but she was desperate—she’s not about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws.

On top of post-turning transition issues, like being ignored at PTA meetings and other mothers rejecting her son’s invitations for sleepovers, Libby must deal with her father-in-law’s attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade—a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night—and the return of her sire, who hasn’t stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her.

With the help of her new vampire circle, Libby negotiates this unfamiliar quagmire of legal troubles, parental duties, relationships, and, as always in Harper’s distinct, comedic novels, “characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews).

Review:
Here we are at the fourth book in the Half-Moon Hollow series by Molly Harper. It’s been a funny, snarky and quirky ride and I live revisiting this world each time a book is released. This installment is no exception. You know when you pick up a Molly Harper book you are in for some laughs.  The humor is the primary reason I read this series, I love to laugh. Now as with a lot of Molly Harpers books, the romance is not really the central theme. I think the point of these books is to be humorous, display the different characters as their quirky selves, tell an outrageous story and then the romance: and that’s what we get with this book. We get to meet up with most of the gang again as they help newbie Libby navigate her new vampiric world. Jane is seen a lot as the new head of the council. Seeing Jane in “official” mode is funny as she tries to be “professional” and you know she doesn’t have professional bone in her body. Lol

Libby is super cute and a loving mom. She goes to extremes to make sure her baby does not grow up alone and without her. I think she handled her transition pretty well, considering she had no real guidance going into the whole thing. Her interactions with the fellow parents are quite funny especially after they find out she’s turned. Talk about Mean Mommies, her only real ally is her kiddos, best friends, father.. Wade.. as they spend more time together, the more they realize they want to spend more time together. But then Libby’s sire shows up on her doorstep and suddenly we have a love triangle! HAHA and not an obnoxious one. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It’s another solid installment and gave me everything I wanted from a Molly Harper novel.

Early Review: The Curse of Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones

The Curse of Tenth Grave: Charley Davidson and Reyes Farrow

(Charley Davidson #10)

The Curse of Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones

Expected publication: June 28th 2016

Summary:
From Goodreads.com

As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.

There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?

Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…

Review:
I adore the Charley Davidson world.. It's one of my favorite urban fantasy series mostly due to its humor. This book picks up about a week after the last one left off. Charley is still doing her, taking cases, pissing people off and making people laugh.

In the last book her learned some disturbing information about her beloved Reyes... At first I was going to be pissed for her yet again leaving Reyes in the dark about something important, and she does, but she's smarter about it this time. So it feels like she's growing as a character and in maturity. Maybe motherhood has changed her. Beep is still a central theme in this book as they concentrate on keeping her safe. To do so, Charley has to trap at least two evil gods.. The third, remains up in the air on whether they are a true threat or not. At the end Charley makes a bold declaration which elevated her bad ass status. Overall, with all the other installments in this series we are taken on an entertaining roller coaster ride. I definitely recommend this series to anyone that likes to laugh.
