Review: Cursed By Destiny by Cecy Robson

Cursed By Destiny: Celia Wird and her three sisters

(Weird Girls #3)

Summary:
Goodreads.com
Celia’s a girl in trouble.  Her heart is bound to Aric, but he is a pureblood were who must deny her or risk condemning his species to extinction.  And that’s just her love life. She’s also been called to take down a group of demon terrorists seeking to overthrow the paranormal world. (No pressure.)

In order to bring them down, Celia must ally herself to Misha, the master vampire who has made no secret of his desire for her. And if that weren’t enough misfortune for one girl, a clairvoyant’s prediction could destroy Celia and Aric’s love for good. The only way to protect the world from unbridled supernatural terrorism is for Celia to bind herself to her destined mate. And that doesn’t appear to be Aric

Review:
Cursed by Destiny by Cecy Robson is the third book in the Weird Girls Series an action packed humorous Urban Fantasy series with a bit of romance for you romance lovers out there. This series is on my up and coming favorite paranormal series, so if you haven’t been reading it, you’ve been missing out. It has all of the great elements, lots of paranormal (witches, special powers, vampires, were’s, demons, etc…), good laughs to be had, a love triangle, and tons of ass kicking! These are some strong powerful women and the men who adore them.

So enough fan girl time with the series and on to the book itself; so basically when we left off hell had pretty much broke out in Tahoe and the demons had demolished a huge chuck of the paranormal world especially the pure bred wolves. Aric as a pure bred has a duty to his species to procreate with another purebred and left Celia devastated. All she can do is move on and she has chosen to ally with Misha the master vampire that has never hidden the fact that he has desired her. With the demons gunning for Celia she can’t live with her sisters and potentially endanger them. Somehow word has reached the demons about Celia and they have a real hard on to take her out. The Wird sisters are no wilting flowers and they plunge into battle right next to their older sister. Seriously from beginning to end it is non-stop action and intense. Either there is an intense battle, intense training or intense passion at any given time within this novel and don’t forget the story while intense in this series even in the midst of an intense scene Cecy Robson always takes the time to give us a good chuckle.

So the love triangle, so I know you are dying to know what happens here. Aric is engaged to another purebred, will he go through with the wedding and make the elders happy? Or will his mating instinct be too strong.. HA! Like I'm going to tell you! I will admit to being on Team Aric tho. Yes, I thought him being a bit of a pansy by giving into the elders but Cecy does go a bit into it in this book so he’s not as much as a sissy as I was feeling for him before. So this may restore some reader’s faith in Aric and swing them back to Team Aric and away from Team Misha. Misha is not giving up; however, he still wants our fair Celia. What I don’t get about Misha is he wants Celia and claims to love her but he parades so many women in front of her. Ahhh Misha, I gotta tell you the way to a woman’s heart is not constantly proving you are a manwhore it will just make her feel like a notch in the belt. So that’s kinda my thoughts on Misha, maybe if he wasn’t such a manwhore I could have liked him more and been on Team Misha at least be a bit more discreet about it. Oh and to complicate things there is a new player in town, a lion who is “destined” to be the father of Celia’s babies! Oh yeah, Cecy Robson just upped the ante! How thrilled do you think Misa and Aric were to hear that?! Ha! Seriously there is never a dull moment in this book. Maybe not as emotionally charged as the last one but it is no less fantastic. I’ll pick up a Cecy Robson novel any day! Put her on my auto buy list for sure.

Review: McQuade: The Lone Wolf Takes A Mate by Lynn Richards

McQuade: The Lone Wolf Takes A Mate: McQuade Jenner and Rose Spencer

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
McQuade Jenner was a lone wolf.

He didn't need some antiquated idea of one mate for life messing up his perfect bachelor lifestyle. On any given night he could find a biker groupie–human or shifter–reckless enough for a one-time fling with a wolf. He could bed a woman when he felt the need and go home to the solitude he enjoyed. And that's exactly what he'd intended to do the night Rose Spencer walked into his life–alone, wet, and trouble just waiting to happen. He’d never intended to get involved with the innocent Rose–she was a life-time commitment and McQuade didn't do commitment. But what was a wolf protector supposed to do when the woman his wolf wanted was threatened by a low-life lion shifter?

Rose Spencer wasn't the bar-scene type. She'd never have stepped foot inside the shifter bar unless she’d been trying to protect her sister–again. When would she learn that Alice was quite capable of taking care of herself–and that she was the one suddenly in need of protection?

Review:

So here we go again an insecure BBW female that doesn’t think she deserves a good looking man just because she has some curves. Why can we not have a curvy girl that rocks her curves and loves it? Seriously?! Why not why does almost every bigger female we read about have to be so down on themselves? So basically we have Rose our innocent virgin who has never had a relationship because she's on the bigger side because of course there could never be a guy that likes a girl that rocks her curves.. that just doesn’t exist until she walks into a shifter bar. Then she is the most popular girl in the bar.

McQuade is a bad ass shifter, an enforcer for his pack. He’s not that comfortable with the idea of belonging to something, he’s more of the lone wolf time but he felt it was time to rejoin a pack and the pack he joined is pretty laid back and lets him do himself. He’s out at a bar looking for a “good time” when the innocent Rose walks into the bar and suddenly the tension in the shifter bar is off the chain. Normally that would been fine with McQuade but this time he wants the fair Rose for himself and he’s even willing to battle a bar for her. The sexual tension between Rose and McQuade is hot hot hot! These two have a blazing chemistry but McQuade is determined to avoid Rose and deny that he may be feeling a mating bond with Rose. But when Roses life is in danger he can no longer deny his instinct to protect his mate. Once they stopped fighting the attraction things moved along at a rapid pace. They were in sync with each other and truly seemed compatible. McQuade was sexy and sweet once he got past his growly avoidance phase. I wouldn’t have thrown him out of bed. Rose when she started to not be so hung up on her weight was actually likable. I ended up for the most part enjoying the book. The story itself wasn’t very flushed out but in all fairness it was pretty short. The whole plot line with her sister and the lion shifter was just kind of cut short with no real explanation. I guess it just gave a reason for Rose and McQuade to really get together and then stopped being useful so it came to an abrupt end. I did really enjoy McQuade’s best friend, his name is eluding me right now; but he was funny and kind hearted. If he ever gets a book, I’ll probably read it since I liked him so much.

Early Review: Vice by Genevieve Jack

Vice: Laina Flynn and Kyle “The King” Kingsley

Knight World #1

Summary:
Some cravings can't be denied.

Werewolf Laina Flynn longs to break from the patriarchal expectations of Fireborn pack. A successful entrepreneur, she doesn’t have time to be bossed around by her alpha brother, Silas, let alone to act as a proper werewolf princess.

But when a wolf is found murdered on Fireborn shifting grounds, Laina will do anything to protect her pack, even if it means posing as a waitress at a club that flies in the face of her feminist ideals. Unfortunately, her inner wolf marks the club’s owner, Kyle “The King” Kingsley, as her vice—her metaphysical addiction. He becomes a hunger she can’t ignore…one that could threaten her life, her family, and her pack.

Review:
Vice by Genevieve Jack is the first in a new series featuring werewolves and other supernatural creatures. I believe it is a spin off of an early series which I had not read, but that is ok, I dont believe that you would have had to read any of her other novels to get this one. That being said, I have read one other book by Ms. Jack several years ago.  (The Ghost and the Graveyard) I quite enjoyed this book which is why I requested this one when I saw it on NetGalley.  I do enjoy me some werewolves, so why not???

So my thoughts on this one. About 30% of the way through the book, I have to admit I was a bit worried. Our heros of this novel had really only exchanged a handful of sentences at this point and maybe a page together. So I was concerned with so little interaction how I was going to buy into the love story. While I still think the pacing of the beginning of this book is off, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how Ms. Jack was able to pull out the love story. The couple end up spending about a month together, getting to know each other, so its not like BAM they’re in insta-love. There was a whole bunch of BAM insta-lust, but I am definitely ok with that.

Laina is pretty feisty and an alpha personality. Even though her brother is technically the alpha she puts up a pretty good fight and knows her mind. Kyle is surprisingly sweet, he has a rep of being a playboy but with these things rumors are not often true. He’s a bit of a romantic and has no problem with Liana’s alpha tendencies and in fact encourages them.  The story was pretty interesting and it was a quick read. I enjoyed my time with this novel and wouldnt have any problems reading the next book in the series. Oh and a bonus with this book, I found out who Grateful from The Ghost and the Graveyard picked.  Yay!

Review: Of Silk and Steam by Bec McMaster

Of Silk and Steam: Leo Barrons and Lady Aramina

(London Steampunk #5)

Of Silk and Steam (London Steampunk, #5)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com

When her beloved father was assassinated, Lady Aramina swore revenge. The man responsible is well beyond her grasp, but his dangerously seductive heir, Leo Barrons, is fair game. When Mina obtains evidence proving that Leo is illegitimate, she has the means to destroy both the killer and his son, a man who troubles her heart and tempts her body.

A woman of mystery, Mina's long driven Leo crazy with glimpses of a fiery passion that lurks beneath her icy veneer. He knows she's hiding something, and he's determined to unravel her layer by silken layer. He just doesn't expect the beautiful liar to be the key to overthrowing the corrupt prince consort… or to saving his own carefully walled-off heart.

Review:
Wow.. I totally thought I had reviewed this book forever ago, but I guess it slipped through the cracks. So anyway. Of Silk and Steam. Can’t say I liked Mina or Barrons all that much from the previous books, so needless to say I wasn’t really all that excited about this installment. That being said, I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I would even go as far as to say that it was a really strong installment in this series. Mina is a lot more complex than we ever knew. She’s got some serious layers going on and is super sneaky. I wasn’t expecting all that, at all! Go Bec McMaster for sneaking that in.

Barron’s who knew he had a heart? But apparently he does and it’s all for Mina and has been for quite some time. Mina leads him on a merry chase and I say good for her. A man should have to work for it every now and then. Barrons had a secret of his own, one we’ve known about for a long time but if anyone in the Echlon finds out, it could mean his death. When Mina finds out, he puts his trust in her to keep his illegitimacy a secret.

But these are dangerous times, and Barrons and Mina dont have the luxury of finding their way towards love in a safe environment. The Prince Escort is escalating and now is the time to overthrow him but no one knows who their allies are or if they can trust anyone else. It’s a time of peril and can Mina and Barrons learn to trust each other before they are both destroyed?? Dutduhdaaa

PS. This series should totally be read in order. This would not be a good place to pick it up.

Review: Winter Secrets: Winter Solstice Run #3 by M. Limoges

Winter Secrets: Winter Solstice Run #3: Stephen Dorsett and Kate Matthews

(Black Hills Wolves #33)

Winter Secrets: Winter Solstice Run #3 (Black Hills Wolves Book 33)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Patience is a virtue…a lesson Stephen Dorsett has learned over the years, wooing his mate. He loves the prickly woman with all his heart, but he’s keeping a secret from her—one that will soon change the entire dynamic of their relationship.

Kate Matthews has a secret of her own, but she’s reluctant to share her surprise with Stephen. With her mate spending too many long hours and late nights at work recently, Kate begins to second-guess Stephen’s commitment to her.

One simple misunderstanding, fueled by insecurities and doubts, is all it takes to throw Kate and Stephen off course. Will they allow their secrets to pull them apart, or make their love stronger?

Review:
It was good, I have obviously missed earlier books in the series but that didn't really hinder anything. This was a quick glimpse into an already mated couple’s life after mating showing that not everything is rainbows and kittens. The Kate was kind of a shrew in the beginning but she eventually calmed her ass down. Stephan was cool from beginning to end, he knew what he brought to the table and he just needed his mate to get her head out of her a$$ and know what she brought to the table and appreciate all that he's done for her. It was a really quick read with some good moments. I liked it.

Review: Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

Sweep in Peace: Dina Demille

(Innkeeper Chronicles #2)

Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles #2)

Summary:

Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance.

Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn...and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper…

Review:
I’m a total Ilona Andrews fan girl, this is no secret. Whenever a new book comes out its on my auto-buy list. I haven’t read a single book by Ilona Andrews that I haven’t enjoyed.  This particular series is made available online in pieces on Ilona Andrews website. This in itself is super awesome and lets you know they care about their fans. That being said, I did start out reading this tale online as the pieces came out but stopped about halfway through so that when it was all done I could read it in one piece.. I was a day late and missed it being online for free so alas I had to wait until they prettied it up and released it as one piece. Was it worth the wait and the cost?! Absolutely!

So we are back with Dina, maybe 6 months ish after the last book. Sean had left the planet to see the universe and repay a debt. Arland aka Rapunzel (Seans nickname for him) left to join his House and now it’s just Dina and Caldenia in the house and no guests. When the Arbiter approaches Dina, she knows what she is about to undertake is very risky and dangerous but she needs this, not just for herself and the quest for her parents but for the inn itself.

The story is laced with typical Andrews’s humor/sarcasm. The description of Grumpy Cat about had me rolling.  Dina is participating an a peace talk among three factions that desperately want peace but their prides won’t permit it, on top of that there is a thief she must find and a temperamental chief in residence.   The pace of the book is steady and intriguing, there isn’t time to get bored not with all the preparations to be made and the three factions out to kill each other.  The end of the story when Dina has to interfere to get everyone on the same page is so deeply emotional and heartbreaking. George is a conniving asshole but he gets the job done. Caldenia has her typical wise insights and wisecracks and we get a new cat! (With no name) My only issue with this book is we didn’t get enough time with Sean, but im sure he’ll be featured in the next book whenever that one starts. I assume early next year.

Early Review: The Alpha's Temporary Mate by Victoria Davies

(Fated Match #3)

The Alpha's Temporary Mate: Chloe Donovan and Kieran Clearwater

The Alpha's Temporary Mate

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Fated Match has spent centuries pairing supernatural mates together. Witch and matchmaker, Chloe Donovan, takes pride in helping her clients find their happy endings. But when werewolf alpha and millionaire playboy Kieran Clearwater stalks into her office, she may have finally met the one man she can’t help.

Kieran has no intention of finding his mate. Love is a weakness he can't afford. But with his pack growing more concerned over his single status he, needs to assure them all is well. What better way to do so than to hire a fake girlfriend he can parade around at the annual pack retreat?

Chloe is coerced into becoming the wolf’s temporary mate, but she’s determined to keep their agreement professional. But her seductive partner in crime has other ideas, and his considerable charm makes it difficult for her to keep her eye on the prize. While these two burn hot when they’re together, behind-the-scenes politics work to rip them apart.

Review:
I really liked this book. I picked this book up for two reasons, 1. I liked the cover and 2. Witches and Were's are two of my favorite paranormal and both in the same book.. I was like eh. why not?!

So I picked the book up on NetGalley and soon into the story I realized that this book is a part of a series, worry not my friends, it is ok. This book can totally be read as a standalone there are only brief mentions of the previous two hooked up couples. It does look like this series is specializing in hooking up species that are usually totally wrong for each other and should never work out... Perfect.. I love those! So I think I'm going to go back and read at least one of the previous books.

Annyywayy... So this book. It starts out in the Chloe's office where she is a professional matchmaker. She is affronted because he's basically asking her to go against all of her matching making principals. Kieran want's a FAKE girlfriend. She prides herself on making lasting connections for true mates. So Kieran shows Chloe's boss a whole lot of zero's and it is decided a fake girlfriend it will be, but Kieran is not accepting any of Chloe's matches and time is running out... So Chloe becomes Kieran's fake mate.

Kieran has been burned badly in the past, Chloe has abandonment issues. He's an alpha wolf, she's a witch.. It should never have worked, but their chemistry won’t be denied! Watching them fight their attraction is fun; it's even more fun when they give in. There are some bumps in the road for these two and a few twists. Ms. Davies could have taken an easy way out with these two because they are mates and gone the insta-love route but the love comes more gradually. Just because fate knows you're meant to be doesn't mean that the two involved have to agree with it, but eventually fate has to have its way. I really enjoyed this book. I liked both Chloe and Kieran and the plot was entertaining. I'll definitely look out for the next book in the series.. I'm hoping Chloe's bitchy siren boss finds her match!

Early Review: Fangs for Memories by Molly Harper

Fangs for Memories: Dick Cheney and Andrea

(Half-Moon Hollow #4.5)

Fangs for the Memories (Half-Moon Hollow, #4.5)

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Join Half-Moon Hollow’s favorite couple for a trip down memory lane—to a time when Mr. Wainwright was newly dead, Jane Jameson was a newbie vampire, and a budding paranormal romance was not yet uncorked…

Half-Moon Hollow’s supernatural social event of the season—Zeb’s Titanic-themed werewolf wedding—is coming up, and Dick Cheney (not that Dick Cheney!) needs a date. But Andrea’s had enough of clever, handsome, and rakish to last a lifetime, and Dick Cheney is certainly not the sort of man you bring home to mom (not that Andrea’s deadist parents are speaking to her ever since she dropped out of college and became a blood surrogate.) Shameless, relentless, roguish, with a Stetson-worthy swagger, a naughty sparkle in his eyes, and a constant smirk—oh, and fangs—no, Dick is the last person (er…vampire) Andrea wants to date.

But the infuriatingly irresistible man who lives quietly on the edge of a criminal underworld knows exactly what he wants, and once he surprises Andrea with a thrilling hot and dirty kiss behind the paranormal bookshop, she knows what she wants too: Dick. All it takes to ignite their unconventional courtship is a near-undeath experience that confronts Dick with a choice between turning Andrea, losing her forever, or tapping into his countless shady resources in this hilarious and heartwarming enovella that revisits the early days of Molly Harper’s Nice Girls series

Review:
I am so happy we got a chance to look back on Dick Cheney (vampire not Vice President) and Andrea. When I got the book all I knew was that it was a Half Moon Hollow book and that’s all I needed to know to read it, so when I cracked it open and realized we were flashing back to the origins of Dick and Andrea I was pleasantly surprised. Their courtship never when into any depth, we knew Dick flirted but Andrea always put him off and then all of the sudden they were a power couple. Here we get a deeper look in how it all happened and I’m so glad we did!

The novella is in true Molly Harper style, mishaps and laughs.  Harper always gives you a quirky, fun character that you fall in love with and although we have already fallen in love with these two in previous books you fall deeper after reading this. It turns out Dick Cheney has a romantic sensitive side and we find out why Andrea has been standoffish towards men.  We have a near death experience as usual and some good laughs. The novella is short, and I wasn’t ready for the end. I wanted some more. Good thing Harper has a new book from this series coming out next month so I’ll get my fix!

From Goodreads.com

Stricken with a magic-sickness, Jim needs Dali's flair for magic. And to save him, she must challenge a powerful, dark being to a battle of wits.

Review:

Magic Dreams by Ilona Andrews is a great novella in this series. I love, love it! I’ve read this book a few times. It’s a great look into Jim and Dali, it has been hinted at previous books a possible Jim and Dali paring but this seals the deal! Dali has been featured in previous Kate Daniels books but she doesn’t get much of a spotlight but this novella is all about Dali! She is quirky and fun, I love that she is half blind but still loves to race cars. She is intensely intelligent and fiercely protective of Jim. She has a mad crush on Jim which everyone seems to know but Jim. Jim. We’ve known since book one; we know he is mysterious and a protector and that does not change. In this book it’s a turn around, it’s Jim who is in danger and Dali who must be the one to save the day. We are taken through Asian culture and traditions with a Curse thrown in. This novella is short but it packs a punch!

Review:
Kresley Cole has long since earned her place on my auto-buy list as well as the top spot as my favorite author. Every time I pick up a Kresley Cole book it starts this spiral of need to go back and read the rest of the series all over again. I swear I do a re-read of IAD at least once a year. I know without a doubt that if I pick up a Kresley Cole book it will be a minimum of four stars EVERY time. MacRieve is absolutely no exception to this rule. This was not my favorite book of the series but I’d still say Ms. Cole has a winner on her hands. I DEVOURED it, staying up all night to finish and dragging my ass into work with almost no sleep but not caring. PS. I really wish release day was on a Friday or something so this wouldn’t keep happening to me with my favorite authors. LOL

As with Lothaire I gotta say MacRieve was kinda a douche in the middle of the book. He showed promise early on but events triggering childhood trauma and massive guilt changed that fairly quickly. I am glad to say that he did see error of his ways and did endeavor to change his attitude but it was some rough going there for a while. MacRieve totally earned his nickname of “Head Case” and I absolutely LOVED that nickname for him; it was so fitting and cracked me up every time someone used it and they called him it right to his face and he couldn’t even get mad since it was true. Lol Coming into this book, I had no idea just how traumatized MacRieve was, in reality we didn’t know much about the twins other then they are Hot and Hotter or is it Hotter and Hot?? A childhood event when he was nine lasting until it came to a head at thirteen shaped the rest of his life and then when he was picked up by the Order that just made everything worse. His torture was extensive as the pet of Dr. Nixon and then after the escape he barely dodged another bullet which dredged up the childhood memories. I couldn’t help but repeatedly say “pobrecito” (poor guy) throughout a lot of the book. He may have been a douche but it was kind of understandable and I couldn’t hate him for it. He even brought tears to my eyes a few times and I don’t think I have ever cried in a Kresley Cole book, because usually I’m too busy laughing.

Even though there were a few tears worry not my friends you’ll still laugh in this book because Chloe is quite the smart ass and I adore smart ass characters. Probably one of the reason I love Kresley Cole so much, most of her characters tend to be on the smart ass side and I can’t get enough of it. Chloe is also a pretty tough chica. In the beginning she is just a human professional woman’s soccer player with dreams of the Olympics but soon she realizes that something is happening to her. When her father disappears after handing her the living book of the Lore it is merely weeks when she is kidnapped to be sold to the highest bidder. It seems her father is enemy numero uno amongst the Lore. It is on the auction block when MacRieve finds her and “rescues” her. It is just when she is starting to buy into MacRieve’s matehood when he does a complete 180 after her transition. Chloe is not one to really put up with much shit so she gives back as much as she gets from MacRieve wanting nothing to do with him, but the nature of the beast rears its ugly head and circumstances what they are they have to stick together. What I really liked about Chloe is that she didn’t really freak out about the Lore and her transition. She had a “rub some dirt” mentality and tried to make the best of the situation. She remained her smart ass self and won everyone over including MacRieve. Although, I do wish that she would have been able to compete in the Olympics, it seems a bit sad that she had to give up that dream, but she took it in stride.

This book isn’t as action packed as some of the others as MacRieve is still pretty traumatized from being tortured so I think this was a good move, plus we still had plenty of drama with MacRieve and Chloe in their own personal battle between each other and MacRieves’ past. This is probably the steamiest book of the series, almost from the get go. As with all the other books in this series the side characters cannot be dismissed. I adore every single one of them in particular I loved the orphaned brothers. They cracked me up, especially the younger one. I’m drawing a blank on his name right now. We spend more time with Monroe then we ever have before and I like him, it’s looking like his book may be next in the series. He’s little to serious so I hope his mate drives him nuts! Kresley Cole is setting us up for something BIG so I can’t wait to see where we go in this series!

Well Done Kresley Cole, Well Done!

Most memories, that is. Sometimes in the hazy world between dreams and dawn, she hears a Scottish voice, dark and deep, that sounds suspiciously like wolf-shifter Terrent Vilks. A man she happened to anger by kidnapping a few years back. Hey, it was for a good cause.

Terrent Vilks knows more than he’s let on for the past several years. After digging for answers, he knows exactly why the demons want Maggie dead. And he remembers his past with Maggie…very well. She is finally where he wants her. Now all he has to do is discover what exactly the Kurjans did to her, beat the demons into so much submission they leave her alone, and get her to fall in love with him. Again. Good thing he’s used to wrangling monsters.

For 10 years Maggie has not been able to remember who she is, she was captured by the Kurjan and experimented on. For the past 10 years she has been basically on her own. For the past 5 she has been living and training with the vampires. Her path has crossed with Terrent a couple of times since moving to the vampire’s compound and each time they have met sparks have flown and not always the good kind. Terrent has wanted Maggie returned to the wolves, saying that she should be among her own kind. He even tried kidnapping her from the vampires, but now finally Maggie has left the compound and returned to the wolves. Maggie is there for a mission to discover who is tampering with the cure. Terrent doesn’t care why Maggie is there, all he cares about is making sure she doesn’t leave him….again….

From the previous books I had hoped that Maggie and Terrent would end up together, they had a strange sort of chemistry the few times they have met. Terrent is a definite Alpha male but on a few occasions he let Maggie get the upper hand on him. There is no mistaking after reading this book that he let Maggie, because this wolf is not like all of the others. He is in a league all on his own. We get to see a whole different side to Terrent, and I gotta say, I liked it! Maggie, I’ve always liked, and this book did not change that opinion. She is just as likeable in this book as she has in previous book. She has a mysterious background, seeing as she can’t remember anything and some of those gaps get filled in this book, but not all. I kind of liked that Zanetti doesn’t just give Maggie’s memory back with another bump on the head or it all come flooding back as soon as she seems something or someone from her past. This makes it a bit more realistic and keep the intrigue going.

From beginning to end this book is action packed. We start with an attack within the first few pages of this book, followed by a startling confession from Terrent. Terrent is determined to win Maggie and keep her safe, but the odds have not been in his favor. Almost from the moment she arrives chaos ensues. There is a team of assassins after Maggie, their mission, to drag Maggie back to their alpha to be his mate and Maggie is NOT having that nor is Terrent. Now that Maggie has come out of seclusion it seems like she has become a very popular girl on the block. Terrent realizes that he has very limited time to secure Maggie as his, but he is determined that his wait is over and it’s now or never. The heat between Terrent and Maggie is blazing hot. Their passion runs as hot in the bedroom as it does when they are fighting. These two know how to keep things exciting. When they are not fighting or loving they are actually a pretty good team, and work well together. But their goals are different, Terrent is determined to keep Maggie safe, but Maggie is determined to be a full partner. She is not a wolf that is just going to be left behind. For 10 years she has been living in a sort of limbo but she has decided memory or not, she is moving forward with her life with our without Terrent.

I truly enjoyed every minute of this book, my only complaint was that it was not long enough! I really wish Maggie and Terrent had gotten a full length book instead of a novella, but I’m just glad we got their story at all. It was well worth it. This series, while not one of my favorites is a very solid, good series that is definitely worth looking into if you haven’t already! I am looking forward to the future books.

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls—with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird…

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead—with evidence pointing to the vampires—she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen—and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

Review:
This series has quickly become one of my favorites! It has everything you could want in a series, great action, humor, emotion and love. Although, the love part does not come easy for miss Celia as predator it takes a strong man to handle her. Now finally she thinks she has found a man that can be her everything in Aric, but fate may have other plans.

This book is more of an emotional journey for Celia then the previous book; she runs the full gauntlet of emotions causing the read to feel those emotions with her. I know I did, I even misted up a few times because the emotion was so strong. That is one thing you can count on with Cecy Robson she knows how to pull you in and make you feel what the characters feel. This book is in turn joyous and heartbreaking. For those action fans don’t you worry your pretty little heads, there is still plenty of action to be had as the sisters and the werewolves face their most lethal foe yet. This time they fear they may not all walk away as more and more lives are lost fighting demons that are set on extinguishing all supernatural races. For the first time all supernaturals will have to work together to protect not only their lives but to keep from going extinct.

This was one of my favorite books so far this year! Miss Robson can certainly spin a tale that will make you want to keep coming back for more. I know I can’t wait for the third book in this series, especially after that ending!

Review: Bec McMaster - Tarnished Knight

London Steampunk Series:

Book 1.5:

Tarnished Knight: Rip and Esme

Tarnished Knight (London Steampunk, #1.5)

Free on Smashwords.com (for now):

Summary:
From Goodreads.com
After a vicious vampire attack left him struggling to leash the dark urges of the craving virus, John "Rip" Doolan thinks he's finally starting to master the darkness within. The only thing that threatens to shatter his hard-won control is Esme, his closest friend and the only woman he's ever wanted. If the stubborn beauty ever realized precisely what was going through his mind, their friendship would be ruined.

For six months, Esme has waited for Rip to recover and take her as his thrall, not daring to hope for more. Too afraid to put her heart on the line, she is devastated when Rip reveals that he never had any intentions of making her his.

But when a savage gang of Slashers start causing havoc in Whitechapel, Rip and Esme have no choice. They must face up to the depth of the passion that burns between them and forge a new relationship…or risk losing each other forever.

Review:
I very quickly came to love this series! I am so glad that Anne from Under the Covers Book Blog recommended this series to me. It is a unique blend of historical, paranormal and steampunk. This book takes place approximately 6 months after the first book left off. Rip was given the blood-craving to survive a mortal wound at the end of the first book. It was Esme who provided blood for the first time to Rip so that he would survive. For the last six months Rip has been fighting his control of the craving. He has no intention of ever letting Esme be his Thrall. He believes that she is better than that, better than him. For the past six months Esme has been waiting for Rip to take her as his Thrall. She has would give anything to be so close to him, only he doesn’t seem to realize that he is her craving.

In this novella we are taken on a rollercoaster of misunderstandings which make for an entertaining read. Esme and Rip can never quite seem to get on the same page, he can’t believe that she would want likes of him and she can’t seem to make him understand that she wants him as more than just her friend. She is ready to take their friendship to the next level, more than ready, like years ago ready. But he never makes the move. Rip is a giant but a gentle giant at heart, Esme’s friendship means everything to him and he is not willing to do anything to jeopardize that. He can’t seem to make Esme understand that he respects her too much to take her to Thrall.

When the Slasher’s make a play for Blade’s territory, it is Rip that risks his life to take them out. Only the tasks becomes more than he can handle alone. When woman start disappearing he realizes that everyone is in danger. Could it be that Esme will be the next victim of this sadistic bastard. The danger that the Slasher’s pose adds an exciting element of danger to the story. This book may not be very long but it certainly packs all that it can in a short span of time. This book is an action packed tale with plenty of romance. It was a fantastic installment to this exciting new series!

Review: Keri Lake - Soul Avenged

Sons of Wrath:

Book 1:

Soul Avenged: Ayden and Kane Walker

Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath, #1)

Purchase on Amazon: Keri Lake - Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath, #1)
Summary:
From Goodreads.com
Passion is blind in vengeance and love ...

Ayden’s suburban home was invaded by a pack of Lycans.

The brutal attack is the only memory she carries of her former life.

Now, one motive burns in her soul:

KILL THEM ALL.

The Sons of Wrath—a brood of vengeance-dealing warrior demons—band with Ayden to hunt the Lycans on Detroit’s most deadly feeding grounds.

Kane Walker should’ve been her easiest kill.

Unfortunately, the newly bitten Lycan has something she wants—clues that may finally lay her past to rest. To reach them, she must be willing to submit to the sensual pleasures awakened by his touch.

Time is running out.

In seven days, Kane will become what Ayden despises most. She can halt his transformation but the antidote requires the ultimate sacrifice. As the beast takes hold, Kane becomes more of a threat.

Ayden must choose between her lust for revenge, or surrender to her enemy and discover a horrible truth.

Sons of Wrath:
Never gamble with vengeance

Review:
This was such a great take on werewolves, and the havoc they wreak on the families of Detroit. Ayden’s family was one of those families, except she cannot remember any of it. In this world the Lycan’s are the bad guys and what Ayden is (an Alexi) are the goodish guys, kinda. In this world the lines between good and evil are blurred. Are all Lycans bad? Are the Alexi, good? The Wrath brothers are the good or evil? I like that the lined are blurred and what you think you know, you may not actually know. It keeps things interesting. This book was both interesting and entertaining.

There a lot of different characters in this book, with Ayden as our heroine. She is a total bad a$$, training to feel nothing and remembers nothing before her attack, this makes her a more efficient killer.  She seeks only vengeance for her death.  Ayden doesn’t think that she cares that she cannot remember anything beyond avenging her own murder, until she does. That’s where Kane comes in. He’s just an innocent victim, bitten and left suffering, when Ayden found him. With one touch to Kane, she sees something, her past, or is it hers? Confusion reigns but she feels compelled to figure it out, so she takes the new Lycan to the Wrath bros estate.

Throughout the book, Ayden evolves, she becomes more than a hate filled female. She learns that not every Lycan is a killing machine, she learns that maybe there is something to remembering. Because of Kane, she realizes that there is more than just killing Lycan after Lycan. I like Aydens growth and how she softens throughout the book, but never loses her bad a$$ness. Kane is easy to love, throughout the entire book. He is resigned to his fate, but that does not make him a pushover. He realizes he is going to die and by Ayden’s hand, but more then he wants to live he doesn’t want to become a mindless killer. Little by little he shows Ayden humanity at its best and as she learns their feelings grow, but time is running out.

Throughout the entire book we are kept entertained, there is tons of action from the first few pages until the very end. The concept alone is enough to keep you reading. It’s a great spin on an old theme. The Alexi is a new twist to the Lycan tale. On top of the story all of the characters are enjoyable and you want to learn more about them. The Wrath brothers being some of the most interesting; each brother has his own personality and strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed each and every one of them. I am looking forward to reading more about the Wrath brothers and their futures. I am also looking forward to more of Ayden and Kane, because something tells me, they are not going anywhere and we will continue seeing them in future books. I know I will be continuing with this series.

Review: Katie Reus - Alpha Instinct

Moon Shifter Series:

Book 1:

Alpha Instinct: Ana Cordona and Connor Armstrong

Alpha Instinct (Moon Shifter, #1)

Purchase on Amazon: Katie Reus - Alpha Instinct: A Moon Shifter Novel
Summary:
Fear has a scent. So does desire…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

Review:
This was a good solid start to this series. This book immediately pulls you in and holds onto you until the very end. Ana and her family have just suffered tragic losses of most of her pack, leaving the all female pack vulnerable. Ana knows that something will have to be done and soon, if the rest of her pack is going to survive. She already has a neighbor that is creating problems for her.

Ana is a strong wolf and a strong woman and a good leader; however, she is no Alpha and they need an Alpha strong enough to hold other packs at bay. She is smart enough to know this and is smart enough to know that something has to give and soon. When Conner appears out of nowhere she is both thrilled as well apprehensive. 50 years ago Ana thought her and Connor were heading somewhere, somewhere hopefully more than friendship but then he left without a word and with him he took her heart. Now, that Connor is back he is pushing Ana to become his bondmate, the most intimate form of mating between two wolves, but Ana does not trust that Connor won’t just up and leave her again. The danger on the ranch escalates, her pack mates are dying, people are getting attacked and now more than even Ana has to lean on Connor and his warriors strength. I really liked Ana; she is a strong and compassionate woman. She has her packs best interest at heart but at the center of her heart, it’s Connor. She keeps her head about her in the middle of danger and hold true in a crisis. She is a good example of a leader even if she doesn’t have the physical strength she definitely has the fortitude. That same fortitude also, keeps Connor at an arm’s length; she is smart and doesn’t hand him everything up front. She makes him work for it. I always love when our heroine makes our hero work for it a bit. Although, I am a sucker for reunited love, I don’t like it to be too easy. LOL

Fifty years ago, Connor left his heart with Ana. She was his everything, his mate, his very life. For 50 years he has kept his distance from Ana and it was the hardest thing he ever had to do. When he heard her pack was in trouble, there was no way he wasn’t going to return for her. Connor returns and offers his leadership and his warriors but in return he makes some demands. Connor realizes fairly early that he made some missteps with Ana when he arrived. Now he’s got to put in work. I liked that he didn’t shy away from putting in the work to make Ana his. He might have taken for granted that Ana would just accept him and didn’t realize how much his leaving affected her. Now, he’s got to make up for lost time, but there is little time to woo his woman the way he would like. With deaths and the neighboring alpha sniffing around Connor is putting fires out (literally) left and right. Despite some fumbling with Ana, Connor is really a likable character, like Ana he has the packs best interests at heart. In that they are a solid team. He is a born Alpha and his protective instincts run deep. He does everything he can to protect what is his.

The passion between Ana and Connor runs high. They have 50 years to make up for. Even in the beginning when they are dancing around each other the sexual tension is palpable. Also, within this book we are introduces to several possible future pairings; which is setting up the series for success. I find a series is successful when the side characters are strong enough that you begin to care for them as well. This book has definitely gotten to a good start with this. Besides the explosive chemistry out on the ranch, there is a lot of action within this book. We have a couple of mysterious humans that are willing to do anything to get rid of the shifters that are in their midst. We also have the neighboring pack whose alpha not only wants Ana’s land, he also wants Ana, and he doesn’t care how he gets her. Look out to be quite entertained throughout this entire book. I am very much so looking forward to the future books in this series.

ARC Review: Shelly Laurenston - Wolf with Benefits

Pride Series:

Book 8:

Wolf with Benefits: Ricky Lee Reed and Toni Jean-Louis Parker

Wolf with Benefits (Pride, #8)

Release Date: March 26th 2013
Purchase on Amazon: Shelly Laurenston - Wolf with Benefits (The Pride Series)

Summary:
Shelly Laurenston, New York Times bestselling author and a star in the paranormal romance genre, comes the eighth book is the successful Pride series, that blends outrageous humor and sexy shapeshifters to create irresistible heroes that readers fall in love with.

Ricky Lee has no plans of getting serious about anyone, but he will protect Toni Jean-Louis Parker. Not just because he’s been hired to do so, but because it’s the right thing to do. And if that means traveling around the country with one complicated She-jackal, dealing with chocolate-eating wild dogs, instigating trouble between his brothers, and having the most amazing sex he’s ever had…well, who said his job didn’t have perks?

Toni doesn’t know how she keeps getting herself into these situations. But even she has to admit there’s something about Ricky Lee Reed that she finds kind of interesting…and downright sexy. Now they just have to survive long enough to figure out if what they have is worth fighting for…

Review:
LOVED IT (in sing songy voice) from beginning to end LOVED it! I so love Ms. Laurenston’s sense of humor, it has you laughing from beginning to end. In the book we met Toni Jean-Louis Parker and her incredible family. A family of 10 prodigies, Toni is the 11th and oldest sibling and the only non-prodigy. She is in charge of all the progeny and that is a full time job. The siblings crack my ish up! All of them, they are just so bratty and narcissistic just the kids alone make this book worth a read!

However, the real stars of this book are Ricky and Toni and I adored them both. Ricky is this fun loving wolf who doesn’t let much get to him. His fun loving exterior masks the dangerous wolf that lies beneath. Like the rest of the Reeds once they have something in their sites they stop at nothing to get it. Right now, Toni is in Ricky’s sites and he always gets what he wants. Toni’s life is a whirlwind of activity, too bad all the activity is because of her siblings. Finally she has a shot at her own life and the newest director of travel for the Carnivore hockey team and she is sure that she is going to muck it all up! Somehow, some way she has to convince a bunch of Russian bears to let Novikov into their country to play some hockey, too bad they are just as determined to not let him in their country at least not unless it is in a cage. The Russian bears are nothing compared to Toni’s crazy siblings, you haven’t met difficult until you have met her brother Kyle, if only she could get the bears to even talk to her.

The hockey team sends Ricky with Toni as her “security”, this is just the chance Ricky is looking for. There is no way Toni can shake him, if he is there to protect her. In Russia tensions run high and Toni is breaking down more, than usual, but Ricky has her back and front, among other things. In Russia tensions run high, to relieve that tension Toni gives in to her intense attraction to Ricky. Ricky is the calm to Toni’s storm, but when they get home from Russia it turns out that a hurricane is going on. Some human government types have invaded Toni’s home, now Toni needs Ricky’s help more than ever!

This book takes you through highs and lows, it’s a whirl wind of action and humor. This installment is one of my favorite of the series. IT has everything that you have come to love from this series. This book brings Laurenstons trademark humor and all of your old favorite characters. Blayne is training Bo for fatherhood, which always brings about a laugh. This book also brings lots of new characters all of which I came to love and really hope to see again in the future. I have hopes for a Liv (A fierce predator who is not afraid to slap someone around and Toni’s best friend) and Vic (security expert) pairing. Then there are two of Toni’s older siblings that have a lot of potential for a future book.

ARC Review: Katie Reus – Mating Instinct

Moon Shifter Series:

Book 3:

Mating Instinct: Jayce Kazan and Kat Saburova

Mating Instinct (Moon Shifter, #3)

Publication Date: March 5th 2013
Purchase on Amazon.com: Katie Reus - Mating Instinct: A Moon Shifter Novel

Summary:
As the beast within struggles to break free, he must learn to be what she needs...

Surviving for centuries, powerful lupine shifter Jayce Kazan managed to stay away from humans until he met Kat Saburova and was consumed by the need to protect her. But while Jayce shared his passion with the human seer, he refused to make her his bondmate—a refusal that caused the end of their relationship.

A year later, an attack that left Kat near death has resulted in another lupine shifter turning her. Furious that he wasn’t the one to save her, Jayce is determined to show Kat that he is the one she should rely on. But the newly turned shifter is still traumatized and worried that she’ll hurt those she loves, unless she can learn to control her inner wolf.

And as Jayce struggles to protect Kat from her own worst instincts and convince her to rekindle their love, the extremists who almost killed her are looking to finish the job…

Review:
I whipped through this series because I received this book as a review copy and I didn’t want to pick up the series in the middle. I am so glad that I did start at the beginning not only is this a great series but I think without having the back story this book would not have been as good. We meet Kat in book one and I have to admit she’s a bit of a bad a$$ and makes an impression. We then learn more about Jayce and Kat as a couple in book two, where they are quite the scene stealers. Both these characters have strong personalities that create sparks and massive amounts of sexual tension, by the end of book two you are ready for Kat and Jayce to get their own book!

At the start of this book, we are coming out of a bad situation from book 2. We are worried about Kat and the trauma that she went through. Jayce is about out of his mind with worry but Kat is not letting him in. Jayce knows he has to earn Kats trust all over again, but if anyone is up for the task its Jayce. I love me an alpha male, all dominating and sexy, that just exudes power and Jayce is all of these and then some. He’s one of the most powerful shifters in the US and he knows it. A man with confidence is such a sexy thing and Jayce has it in spades, except when it comes to Kat. She tore him apart when she left him, and he hasn’t been the same since. He knows he’s messed up and now he has to fix it, but the willful Kat is not making it easy on him. I say go on girl, make him work for it! A little groveling never hurt a man!

Kat has had a time of it lately. Kidnapped and tortured she is trying to find some sort of control in her new life. She never expects that the control that she needs will come from Jayce. He seems to understand what she needs. She is finding it harder and harder to resist him, but he’s broken her heart before and she cannot let him break it again. I really enjoy Kat as a character, she is fierce and determined. I like a feisty character! She takes an extreme circumstance and tries to make due the best that she can. She doesn’t whine and complain but forges on.

This book is full of action and drama, it is sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end. All your favorite characters are back from the previous books and we get a few glimpses for the next couple to come. I cannot wait for book four to release. I am a new fan of this series and will definitely be continuing on!
